How to prepare for your air conditioning installation day
A typical domestic air conditioning install takes one day for a single room, or two days for a multi-split. A little preparation makes the day smoother, cleaner, and faster for everyone. Here's what we ask customers to do before we arrive.
Inside the house
- Clear a 1.5m space around where the indoor unit will go — usually the wall above a window or doorway.
- Move fragile items, ornaments and photo frames from the work area and any surfaces below.
- Pull furniture away from the wall where we'll run pipework, even if it's just a metre.
- If you want the outdoor unit on a specific wall, make sure the route from indoor to outdoor is clear (cupboards, shelves, wardrobes).
- Keep pets in a separate room — installers will be in and out with doors open.
Outside access
- Clear the area where the outdoor unit will sit — grass, leaves, bins, garden furniture.
- Make sure we can get a ladder or scaffold to the wall safely. Remove trailing plants, wires, or obstacles.
- If the outdoor unit will go on a flat roof or balcony, check access is unlocked and safe.
- Leave a parking space close to the property for our van — this saves time and carrying distance.
Power and electrical
- We'll need access to your consumer unit (fuse box). Make sure it's reachable and not blocked.
- If you have a fuse box with no spare ways, tell us before the day — we may need an electrician to upgrade it first.
- Don't worry about isolating power; we'll handle the electrical work safely and notify it under Part P.
What happens on the day

After we leave
- Leave the system running for an hour in cooling, then an hour in heating if it has heat mode.
- Check the remote/app works and you can change temperature, mode and fan speed.
- Keep the F-Gas certificate and warranty documents somewhere safe — you'll need them for any future service or warranty claim.
- If anything looks or sounds wrong, message us straight away. Most issues are settings, not faults.
FAQ
Do I need to be home for the installation?
Yes, ideally. We need access inside and outside, and we like to show you how the system works before we leave.
Will installation make a mess?
We use dust sheets, floor protection and a vacuum. Some dust from drilling is unavoidable, but we clean up as we go.
How long does a single room install take?
Typically 6–8 hours. A multi-room install is usually 1–2 days.
Can you install air conditioning in winter?
Yes — we install year-round. In fact, testing heat mode in cold weather is useful.
